General Resources and Education Assistance ||
Recruiters / IT Job Sites
Software / Enterprise Architecture ||
Software Engineering
Trade / Industry / Professional Publications & Associations
Due to the size of this field, individual employers, research groups, and laboratories will not be
listed. Many IT recruiters and job banks dedicated to
specific US regions are listed on those pages instead of here.
You can also target employers through the resources provided here or our page for
Employer Research.
You may also want to review Engineering and
Telecommunications for additional resources.
Graphic designers, Mobile Content Developers, and Electronic Game Developers will want to check Graphics / Animation / Electronic Games.
Independent IT consultants will want to look at the Free-Agent websites.
This Google Custom Search will search this site plus select others that we feel will be helpful to you in your search for job and career information.
- ACM, the Association for Computing Machinery
- ACM provides most of their online resources for members, but nonmembers will find
several areas open for review. The Chapter listings will connect you to local professionals
who share your interests, and many maintain their own web sites. The Career Opportunities
are open to the public, but the majority of these listings are for academic positions.
ACM members have access to an even larger array of career services, so you may want to consider joining.
- CompTIA Educational Foundation Creating Futures
- This program "provides people with the funding and the training to enter the information technology industry. We fund training and scholarships for students, veterans, individuals with disabilities and others in need." CompTIA works with employers to determine what emerging skills are necessary to work on the latest technologies, and creates certification and non-certification training programs designed to fill these needs. The form is online, and it is easy to complete. Not everyone who applies for the program will be accepted as participation is based on eligibility and available opportunities in your region, but you cannot be selected if you never apply.
- Federal Cyber Service: Scholarship for Service
- "Scholarship For Service (SFS) is a unique program designed to increase and strengthen the cadre of federal information assurance professionals that protect the government's critical information infrastructure. This program provides scholarships that fully fund the typical costs that students pay for books, tuition, and room and board while attending an approved institution of higher learning. Additionally, participants receive stipends of up to $8,000 for undergraduate and $12,000 for graduate students." Funding is available to undergrads in their last 2 years of studies as well as students pursuing grad / PhD degrees. Yes, you will need to "serve" your time in a Federal agency after completing your education, but this looks like an excellent way to pay for college and a good way to get some valuable experience in online security. Only select institutions are participating, so check the most up-to-date list on the website before you begin.
- Center for Women and Information Technology
- Based at the University of Maryland Baltimore County,
CWIT's primary goal is to promote women's involvement
in the IT industry. Visitors to their website will
find links to online resources relating to
women and information technology (IT) including
news, learning the basics of computers, careers in IT,
training and certification, and more. There is also a
bibliography and a FAQ (with links to many outside
resources).
- TenLinks.com
- "The web organized for technology professionals." Seeks out,
evaluates, and reviews websites for its target audience -- folks in
IT and other tech-related or tech-driven fields. Top picks are
listed within short lists of key categories, such as computer-aided design (CAD) and global
information systems (GIS), as well as broader classifications like civil
engineering and architecture. Yes, job resources and employer lists
are also included, and all older listings are archived.

- JustTechJobs.com (was NerdWanted.com)
- ..."our gateway to a collection of technology niched jobsites." This their gateway to almost 50 sites targeted to various areas of technical expertise. could not find how often job leads are updated. Job searching is easy,
recruiter profiles are available, and resume can be submitted online.
Everything is free.
- OdinJobs
- ...job search engine working to collect only IT jobs. "Odin collects jobs from job boards, corporate websites, groups etc. At last count Odin is collecting over million jobs from 50,000 companies." I don't find it to be the friendliest site to use, and I don't understand why they don't list Washington DC as one of the metro areas in their list, especially considering the huge numbers of IT jobs in the area, but it's a source. You can use this site without registering, but if you want to post a resume here (not necessary for application) or set up an automated search alert, you will need to register (free).
